Survey

Experiment
An experiment is a study in which a researcher attempts to understand the effect that a variable (an explanatory variable) may have on some phenomenon (the response) by controlling the conditions of the study.
Random allocation into two groups. Bootstrap.
Observational Study
A study in which a researcher attempts to understand the effect that a variable (an explanatory variable) may have on some phenomenon (the response) but where the researcher is not able to control some important conditions of the study.
No random allocation possible.
Causal - Relationship
Just because there is a relationship between toe variables does NOT mean one variable influenced the other.

Margins of error
The sample size is used to decide on a suitable margin of error to use. When news paper articles state a margin of error we can guess the sample size. MOE is approximately 1 divided by the square root of the sample size.
