If in an external exam I was expecting a student to provide an answer of something along the lines of 'if we repeated this study a large number of times then approximately 95% of such intervals would cover the unknown parameter value' then I think I would need to signal that expectation to the student by asking a question along the lines of: 'Clearly explain the meaning of the '95%' in a 95% confidence interval.'
